Ruba Rombic Look Alikes — The Pretenders

Ruba Rombic Pretenders
  • Yugoslavian Bath Salts 15" Bottle

The image above is a bath salts bottle made in the 1960's in Yugoslavia! This bottle originally came with a small oval easily removed paper label on its base that read "MADE IN YUGOSLAVIA." Unfortunately, we now have unscrupulous dealers trying to pass these bath salts bottles off as Ruba Rombic decanters! They are knockoffs, with prominent mold lines on the side and a hollow stopper (all Ruba Rombic stoppers are solid glass). The bottle, without the stopper is 10" tall and with the stopper is 15" tall. The glass color is a dead ringer for Ruba Rombic's Jungle Green. So the next time someone offers one of these 1960's bath salts bottles from Yugoslavia, remember caveat emptor (buyer beware)!
  • Ramses Vases

These vases were used by Ramses Cosmetics, circa 1930, to hold bath salts (they have been found with bath salts and an intact label). Research has not uncovered their manufacturer. However, they are not Ruba Rombic or Kopp Modernistic.
  • Cubist Powder Jar

I originally thought this was made by Kopp Glass Company as part of their Modernistic line; however, that attribution was in error. There is no documentation in the Kopp catalogs of trade journal ads of this powder jar. Kevin Kiley leans toward Tiffin as the manufacturer as Tiffin made frosted powder jars and the glass is of a similar quality.
